RC Style Inc Design & Build

Kitchen, Bathroom & Basement Renovation Services Toronto

For over 20 years, I’ve seen homeowners in Toronto start renovations with excitement, only to end up in a nightmare. It’s not about bad luck. It’s not about picking the wrong paint colour. Renovations fail because of a bad process. Or worse, no process at all.

Promises are cheap. Every contractor will promise you a beautiful kitchen or a spa-like bathroom. But a promise won’t keep your project on budget. A promise won’t make sure the plumber shows up after the electrician. A process does.

At RC Style, we operate on a simple, transparent process that has guided every project we’ve ever done. It’s not magic; it’s just a logical, step-by-step method that takes the guesswork and the “surprises” out of renovating your home. We are a Design & Build firm, which means the same team that designs your project is the one that builds it. There’s no finger-pointing between the designer and the contractor because we’re one and the same. One plan, one team, one final price.

This page outlines our core services. For each one, we’ll explain our specific approach and show you how a solid process is the only thing that stands between you and a renovation you’ll love for years to come.

Kitchen Renovations

The Problem: The kitchen is the heart of the home, but a renovation can feel more like open-heart surgery. You’re worried about being without a kitchen for months, costs spiraling out of control, and making a design choice you’ll regret in five years.

The Fallout: With the wrong team, that fear becomes reality. Your 6-week project stretches into 6 months, the budget doubles, and you’re eating takeout on the living room floor, wondering if you’ll ever have a sink again.

Our Approach: The Kitchen as a System

A kitchen isn’t just cabinets and countertops; it’s a complex system of plumbing, electrical, ventilation, and ergonomics. Our process treats it that way. We build your kitchen on paper and in 3D models long before the first hammer swings. This means we solve problems during the design phase, not during demolition when it costs you time and money.

We map out every detail, from the exact placement of outlets for your coffee maker to ensuring the drawers close with that soft, satisfying click. We work with trusted local suppliers in the GTA to source materials that look great and stand up to daily life. Our kitchen renovation tips guide is a good place to start, but our process is what ensures a smooth project from start to finish.

What to Expect: A Clear Timeline

A full kitchen gut and remodel in the Toronto area typically takes 8 to 12 weeks. We build in buffer time because old houses always have secrets hidden in the walls.

  1. Consultation & Design (1-2 weeks): We talk about how you use your kitchen. Are you a baker? Do you entertain? We design a layout that fits your life, not just your space.
  2. Demolition & Rough-ins (1-2 weeks): We take the old kitchen out and our licensed electricians and plumbers run new lines according to the plan. This is the messy part, but we seal off the area to keep dust contained.
  3. Drywall, Flooring & Painting (2-3 weeks): The new space takes shape.
  4. Cabinet & Countertop Installation (1-2 weeks): This is where the magic happens. Your kitchen starts to look like a kitchen again. The countertops catch the morning light just right.
  5. Finishing Touches (1-3 weeks): Backsplash, lighting fixtures, appliance installation, and all the little details are completed.
  6. Final Walkthrough: You and I walk through the finished space. You don’t pay the final invoice until you are 100% happy.

What Does a Kitchen Renovation Cost in Toronto?

  • Mid-Range (100-150 sq. ft.): $45,000 - $75,000 CAD
  • High-End (150-250+ sq. ft.): $80,000 - $150,000+ CAD

These are realistic ranges for a full renovation, including materials and labour. Your final cost will depend on the size, materials, and complexity of your project.

Kitchen Renovation FAQ

  1. Do I need to move out during the renovation? It’s not usually necessary, but you’ll be without a functioning kitchen. We set up a temporary kitchenette for you elsewhere in the house with a microwave, a temporary sink, and your fridge.

  2. Can I buy my own appliances? Absolutely. We just need the exact model numbers and specifications during the design phase to ensure everything fits perfectly.

  3. How do you handle unexpected issues, like mold or structural problems? It happens. Our process includes a contingency fund (typically 10-15%) for this very reason. When we find something, we stop, show you exactly what’s going on, and provide a clear change order with the cost and time required before proceeding. No surprises.

Bathroom Renovations

The Problem: Your bathroom is dated, cramped, and maybe even has some questionable tile choices from the 80s. You know it needs to change, but the thought of water lines, waterproofing, and tile work feels overwhelming.

The Fallout: A botched bathroom reno isn’t just ugly; it’s a water damage disaster waiting to happen. A leaky shower can rot your subfloor and cause thousands in damage, all because the contractor cut corners on a $50 waterproof membrane.

Our Approach: Waterproofing is Everything

We are obsessed with what happens behind the walls. While the tile and vanity get all the attention, the most critical part of a bathroom renovation is waterproofing. We use modern, reliable systems and follow the Ontario Building Code to the letter. Every shower and tub surround we build is leak-proof, period.

We focus on creating a space that is not only beautiful but also functional and durable. This means proper ventilation to prevent mold, smart storage solutions, and fixtures that are built to last. Our bathroom remodel guide offers more detail on the planning process. Imagining that first shower in your new walk-in, without fighting a grimy shower curtain, is what we aim to deliver.

What to Expect: A Step-by-Step Plan

A standard bathroom renovation in the GTA takes about 4 to 6 weeks.

  1. Design & Selection (1 week): We finalize the layout and you select your tile, vanity, fixtures, and finishes.
  2. Demolition & Plumbing/Electrical Rough-in (1 week): We take everything back to the studs and update the plumbing and electrical.
  3. Waterproofing & Tile Work (1-2 weeks): This is a meticulous process. We take our time to ensure every seam is sealed and every tile is perfectly set.
  4. Fixture Installation & Painting (1 week): The toilet, vanity, and shower fixtures go in.
  5. Final Details (1 week): Mirror, lighting, and final touches.
  6. Final Walkthrough: We review the work together to ensure every detail is perfect before you sign off.

What Does a Bathroom Renovation Cost in Toronto?

  • Standard 3-Piece Bathroom (approx. 40-60 sq. ft.): $25,000 - $40,000 CAD
  • Primary Ensuite / Large Bathroom (80+ sq. ft.): $45,000 - $80,000+ CAD

Prices vary based on tile choices, fixture quality, and whether we’re moving walls or plumbing.

Bathroom Renovation FAQ

  1. Can I still use my house during the renovation? Yes. If it’s your only bathroom, we can sometimes set up a temporary toilet at the end of each day, but it’s best if you have another bathroom you can use. We always maintain a clean and safe work area.

  2. What’s the difference between a custom shower and a pre-fabricated one? A pre-fab shower is a single unit installed quickly. A custom shower is built on-site with tile and a custom glass door, allowing for unique designs, benches, and niches. It costs more but offers much more flexibility and a high-end look.

  3. Do I need a permit for a bathroom renovation in Toronto? If we are moving plumbing, electrical, or walls, yes. We handle the entire permit process for you.

Basement Renovations

The Problem: Your basement is a cold, damp, concrete box filled with forgotten storage. It feels like wasted space, but you’re worried about moisture, low ceilings, and making it feel like a real part of the house instead of an afterthought.

The Fallout: Finishing a basement without addressing moisture is a costly mistake. Within a year, you’ll have musty smells, peeling paint, and warped flooring. All that money you invested is now feeding a mold problem that’s expensive and unhealthy.

Our Approach: A Warm, Dry Foundation

Before we even think about drywall or flooring, we focus on the foundation. For any Toronto basement renovation, our first step is a thorough assessment of moisture and insulation. We ensure the space is properly sealed, insulated, and prepared for finishing. This often involves installing a subfloor system that creates a thermal break and a moisture barrier, ensuring your new living space stays warm, dry, and comfortable.

From there, we focus on smart design to overcome typical basement challenges. We use strategic lighting, clever layouts, and the right paint colours to make the space feel bright and open, not like a dungeon. Read our basement renovation guide for ideas on creating a functional and inviting lower level. We turn that cold concrete box into the place you have movie night with the kids.

What to Expect: From Concrete to Comfort

A full basement finishing project in the GTA can take 10 to 16 weeks, depending on the scope (e.g., adding a bathroom or kitchen).

  1. Assessment & Design (1-2 weeks): We test for moisture, plan the layout, and determine requirements for egress windows or permits.
  2. Framing & Rough-ins (2-4 weeks): We frame the walls and run all the necessary electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
  3. Insulation & Drywall (2-4 weeks): The space starts to feel like actual rooms.
  4. Flooring & Finishes (2-3 weeks): Flooring, doors, trim, and paint are completed.
  5. Final Installations (1-2 weeks): Lighting, plumbing fixtures, and any cabinetry are installed.
  6. Final Walkthrough: A complete tour to ensure everything is up to standard.

What Does a Basement Renovation Cost in Toronto?

  • Basic Finishing (Open Concept): $60 - $100 per sq. ft. CAD
  • With Bathroom & Multiple Rooms: $100 - $175+ per sq. ft. CAD

Adding a full kitchen or extensive custom built-ins will increase the cost. A great basement reno can have a significant return on investment, as noted by the CMHC.

Basement Renovation FAQ

  1. How do you deal with low ceilings? We use “pot lights” (recessed lighting) to save headroom and paint the ceiling a bright white to create the illusion of height. In some cases, we can even dig down to underpin the foundation, but this is a major structural job.

  2. Is a separate entrance necessary? Only if you plan to create a legal secondary suite (a basement apartment). If it’s just for your family’s use, it’s not required, but it can be a convenient feature.

  3. What’s the best flooring for a basement? Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) is a fantastic option. It’s 100% waterproof, durable, and warmer underfoot than tile. Carpet is also great for bedrooms and living areas, provided you have a good subfloor.

Design & Build Services

The Problem: You have an idea for a major renovation or even a home addition, but you don’t know where to start. Do you hire an architect first? A designer? A contractor? You’re afraid of getting stuck in the middle, with a designer’s beautiful plan that no contractor can actually build on budget.

The Fallout: This is the classic renovation nightmare. The architect blames the contractor for high costs, the contractor blames the architect for a flawed design, and you’re caught in the middle with a half-finished project and a depleted bank account.

Our Approach: One Team, One Process

Our Design & Build model eliminates this conflict. As a single entity, RC Style is responsible for your project from the first sketch to the final coat of paint. The design is created with a practical understanding of construction costs and methods, ensuring the plan is realistic from day one.

This integrated approach means one meeting, one plan, and one price. Communication is seamless, accountability is clear, and the process is far more efficient. We manage everything: architectural drawings, engineering, permits, material selection, and all construction. Your job is to tell us your vision; our job is to bring it to life without the drama.

What to Expect: A Cohesive Journey

The timeline for a Design & Build project varies greatly, from a few months for a large reno to over a year for a major addition. The process, however, is always consistent.

  1. Discovery & Feasibility: We define the project scope, budget, and check zoning/feasibility with the city of Toronto.
  2. Conceptual Design: We create initial layouts and 3D renderings to establish the design direction.
  3. Detailed Design & Pricing: We refine the design, select all materials, and provide a fixed-price construction contract.
  4. Permitting: We submit all necessary drawings and documents to the city for approval.
  5. Construction: Our in-house team and trusted trade partners build the project according to the plan.
  6. Completion & Handover: We conduct a final walkthrough and hand you the keys to your new space.

What Does a Design & Build Project Cost?

This is highly variable. The main benefit isn’t necessarily a lower cost, but cost certainty. Because the design and construction are handled by one team, we can provide a fixed price much earlier in the process, virtually eliminating surprise costs.

Design & Build FAQ

  1. Is the Design & Build model more expensive? Not necessarily. While you pay for design services, you often save money by avoiding costly changes during construction and benefit from a more efficient timeline.

  2. What if I already have an architect? We can still help! In this case, we would act as the general contractor, working with your architect’s plans to build the project. We call this a “Build-Only” service.

  3. How much input do I have in the design? As much as you want. Our process is collaborative. We guide you through the decisions, but you have the final say on every finish, colour, and fixture.
